Chris Farren, a beloved and prolific songwriter, has just released his new album Doom Singer today through Polyvinyl. Farren is known for his work with Jeff Rosenstock in Antarctigo Vespucci and his former punk band, Fake Problems. However, he created all of his solo work in self-described “miserable” isolation, until now.
Doom Singer was produced, engineered, and mixed by Melina Duterte, a multi-instrumentalist/producer and Jay Som mastermind. Duterte also performed on the album, while the writing was done entirely with Frankie Impastato, a live drummer. The occasional bass and saxophone was played by Rosenstock.
Farren shared that he had no good memories of making his previous solo albums, as it was always a lonely and doubt-ridden process. However, this new collaborative method has brought new life to his songs. Inspired by a “sixties-tinged girl group vibe,” his songs are huge, catchy, and cathartic. They showcase Farren's genuine, empathetic, and funny personality, despite his claims of nihilistic tendencies. Ultimately, it's his dogged optimism that shines through in Doom Singer.

He was born in Michigan and lived there until he was 7 years old, after which his family relocated to Florida. He has been a part of several successful bands such as Fake Problems and Antarctigo Vespucci, and has also made a name for himself as a solo artist.
