Today, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie turned 27. He will be able to celebrate even more when “Me Vs. Myself,” his first album in almost 3 years, comes out.
Unfortunately, A Boogie had to finish the project without PnB Rock, who was his longtime partner and a former labelmate at Atlantic Records. PnB Rock was killed in September.
A Boogie and PnB worked together on a few songs, including one on A Boogie’s last album. The Bronx rapper came up with a way to honor his late friend by having him appear on the deluxe version of “Me Vs. Myself” in the future.
He says to Apple Music, “When it comes to PnB Rock, too, that was a big one right there, and that was the end of my album.”
He added, “I didn’t think that would happen right then. I had to put him on the album at the same time as not making it. Putting out people’s music after they’ve died is something I don’t like to do. It feels like a weird tension towards that … I took his song off my album and put it out as a deluxe single.”
